Getting to Munich, Germany...
So our journey to Germany was quite an adventure! We had booked our flight from Ireland to Munich on an airline that flys in Europe called RyanAir. So the day started off smoothly....and then declined rapidly. The flight was less than comfortable, the seats didn't recline, there was barely any air. All of this was tolerable (sort of) the really bad part was during our descend, I looked out the window and saw, farms......and fields....and basically no signs of life. Now I am thinking to myself "we are suppose to be landing in Munich....a huge city I don't see a city!" At this point panic kicks in a little and I say to Cara "where are we?" Then we both realize not only are we NOT landing in Munich, and have no clue where we are....but our friend is flying in from France and meeting us at the MUNICH airport! And to throw one more issue in we don't have her cell phone number with us!
So we land on a very sketchy landing strip in the middle of a corn field on the border of Austria, as I get off the plane I realize we are not even at an airport....but a warehouse type building, I then notice the plane off to the side that hasn't been flown in quite some time b/c there are weeds growing up all around it...."Lovely"
Mission one, figure out where the heck we are....Mission two try and get to Munich asap! It turns out that the "air-strip" is what Ryanair considers Munich and that were were actually about 2 hours outside the city.
We hopped on a bus and settled in all the while worrying about our friend who is now alone in a huge city. So we get to Munich and show the bus driver our address of our rental car place that is suppose to be right by the airport....he then chuckles and says "its a 20 to 30 min cab ride outside of the city." I am thinking "*@!$%*!!#" at this point and trying to keep it together. So we find the train station and see if we can get a train to the car place....No train. But as we are leaving we notice our rental car place, so we go in have a little heated discussion with the not so nice rental lady......pay and extra fee to get a car from THIS office, and finally FINALLY get our rental car.
We were suppose to meet our friend at around noon its now 5pm and to our relief she is at the hotel waiting for us when we get there! The trip there was so stressful that all we wanted to do was laundry (backpacker style) and find some food.....It was an interesting start to our German experience.
This was hilarious as well b/c we had so much laundry that it looked like a laundry shop in our room we had cloths hanging EVERYWHERE and we had to call down and ask for some floor fans to get everything dried in the 2 days we were there.....ahhh traveling on a budget! :)
Good memories! :)
A place of Refuge
On our last day in Galway we were walking around the town and got caught in a huge rain storm. Luckily we were able to duck inside this gorgeous church until the rain let up.
I love old churches...so full of history and beautiful.
