…..Well we have no idea! But we feel God pushing us in a direction that’s new, scary, and unknown. Its been this way for quite sometime, which is part of the reason I decided to be a crazy person and try and do my masters with 2 toddlers!
School has not been easy….not just the time commitment but the whole field in which I am pursuing. I don’t fit the “typical” counselor mold, or personality, which has bred doubt and insecurity. And honestly there have been many times over the last few months that I have seriously asked myself “what are you doing?” But in those moments of doubt I am reaffirmed that this is exactly where God wants me to be, out of my comfort zone doing life his way and not mine. I start my internship in two weeks and like everything else so far in the program I can see God’s handprints all over it. I was hired to work with high-risk families…. I am exited and nervous, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a hard 5 months. My program in 60 credit hours and 900 clinician hours…it’s a lot, however, in Aug. I will be half way through…. yea!
Which brings Scott and me to have conversations about our future that are difficult and scary. We have narrowed it down to a couple of options, I wont give details…. because well we don’t really have any right now, we are praying and waiting for some clear direction. Basically the point of all this rambling is just to ramble…. my head and my heart are really excited, stressed, full of questions and curious as to what the next few years will look like. I feel like we are walking up to the base of a mountain that we are about to climb…. we can see it, but until we start on the journey there is know way of really know what the trail will look like.
On a less vague note, Garrett’s court date was postponed until July 10th we are eager to finish this process and excited that in 2 months Garrett will celebrate his 1-year home anniversary! Time really does fly by!
-Make me known Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day. Psalm 25: 4-5
The Cause
The disease is caused simply by walking or working barefoot in silica-heavy volcanic soil, a very common practice in rural farming regions of developing countries. This creates a large public health problem in at least ten countries in tropical Africa, Central America and northern India.
In Ethiopia alone, it is estimated that eleven million people are considered at risk, with between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people already affected. In the densely populated southern Ethiopian region of Wolaita, Podoconiosis is more common than HIV infection. Those affected suffer deformity, intense pain, and are treated as outcasts from their society, making them unable to work and make a living to support themselves through subsistence farming.
For millions, not wearing shoes can ruin lives.
The Solution
There is a solution to this global problem. Podoconiosis is 100% preventable simply by wearing shoes. The early stages of Podoconiosis can be reversed by simple foot hygiene and the use of footwear.
What we are doing to help
TOMS Shoes is working to prevent this disease by giving durable footwear to all early-stage and at-risk children in the hazardous areas of Ethiopia. The shoes given will be different than the traditional TOMS Shoes, adapted to best prevent exposure to the volcanic soil.
Everyone can make a difference with TOMS Shoes. For every pair purchased, TOMS gives a pair of shoes to a child in need. One for One.
I have had a heavy burden on my heart to do more to help causes close to my heart and to share them with you. Every little bit helps and the shoes are really cute!
